Popcorn Words/Color of the Week:

are, little

On Friday, we had a blast celebrating all of the colors of the week by doing crafts that revolved around all the colors!  We also had a fun rainbow snack at the end of the day on Friday.

Check out our pictures below:

Writers Workshop:

This week in Writers Workshop we started personal narratives.  On Monday, we thought of a small moment story that took place in our lives and told it to our partner.  On Tuesday, we started to write that story down on paper by focusing on what happened first.  We did our best to draw a picture, add labels and write a sentence or two.  Later in the week we wrote the middle and end of our stories.  Our goal is to be able to write a story that contains a beginning, middle and end across pages.  We are off to a great start with tackling this goal.

Readers Workshop:

This week in Readers Workshop we started our superpower unit!  On Monday we learned about pointer power.  We learned that we can use our finger to track under the words as we read, so we read the exact words!  On Tuesday, Mrs Tindall gave each child a witch finger to use for their pointer power!  This was so much fun!  The students used their witch finger to track under the words as they read.  The kinders had a BLAST using their new pointer power tool!

Math:

This week in math we worked on writing the numbers 8 & 9.  We also drew objects and shapes to correspond with the number we were learning how to write.  We told addition and subtraction stories based on a picture in our math book.  The students had so much fun telling these stories! We even wrote out the equations as our friends were telling the math story.

Mystery Readers:

Kenzie was so EXCITED to see her big sister Kyla walk through our door as a mystery reader this week!  Kyla read us the story, “There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves” by Lucille Colando.  In this story, there is an old lady who swallows fall-themed items!  In the end, we found out that she uses these items to make a scarecrow.  This was an old favorite of many of the kinders so they were super excited to hear the book again!  Thank you so much Kyla for coming to visit.  We had blast having you in our room!

On Friday, Emmitt & Reagan were so EXCITED to see their mom walk through the door.  Mrs. Janke read us, “Duck on a Bike” by David Shannon.  This was a fun book about a duck riding a bike on a farm!  At the end of the book, all of the animals find a bike and are riding, just like duck! This was such a fun and silly story for our Friday!  Thank you so much Mrs. Janke for being our mystery reader this week!  We LOVED having you visit our classroom.

Weekly Star Student:

Meet Brielle!  Brielle was our star student this week!  We learned so many fun and new things about Brielle.  We learned her favorite color is blue and her favorite animal is a dog.  She loves cotton candy and her favorite sport is gymnastics.  Brielle brought in her favorite book for us to read this week-“Penguin’s Big Adventure”.  We had a blast listening to this fun story!  Thanks for being our first star student, Brielle!
