Social Studies: Thanksgiving Activities & Stone Soup

On Monday we had a blast learning about what it was like to live the life of a Pilgrim child and a Wampanoag child.  We read our scholastic magazine and watched two short videos on a day in the life of a child who grew up living the pilgrim life and a child who grew up living the Wampanoag life.  We learned that pilgrim children picked their crops, they helped their families and they gathered firewood.  We learned that Wampanoag children scared away birds from their crops, collected water, picked crops and helped their families.  We learned both groups of children played with other children, ate meals, and had a place to sleep.  It was so fun learning about what life was like for children 400 years ago!

On Tuesday, we celebrated Thanksgiving by listening to the story Stone Soup and all coming together to add a piece of food to our pot.  After we let our pot simmer we read a small sight word reader of stone soup and we colored the book.  In the afternoon, we tried the stone soup and discussed if we liked it or did not like it.  Check out our pictures below:

2nd Grade Reading Celebration

Mrs. Kuieck invited our class to come and join her 2nd graders for a reading celebration!  The 2nd graders were spread out throughout the room and they each had a nonfiction book that they studied and were experts about!  We learned about dinosaurs, farming, weather, space, etc….It was so much fun to learn some new facts from our 2nd graders!

5th Grade Buddies:

We also had some fun with our 5th grade buddies this week!  They wrote us a little note on why they were thankful for us, brought us a sucker and read us a book.  We ended our time with them by playing outside!  We are super thankful for our buddies this year:)
