Writers Workshop:

We finished our informational writing piece this week and took our assessment on Thursday morning! On Monday, we started our week of informational writing by putting together a KWL of cows.  We first wrote down everything we know and want to know about cows.  Then we watched some informational videos and read some informational text on cows to learn even more!  On Tuesday we wrote down what cows have, can do and what they are.  On Wednesday and Thursday we took the information we learned and on our own, wrote it down to create an informational book all about cows! This informational book will be graded and used for our final report card grade on informational writing.

Readers Workshop:

We focused on learning all about characters in books this week.  The kinders enjoyed picking new books for their book boxes that are a combination of fiction books and their leveled readers.  We found characters in our books and explored many different aspects of these characters.  The kinders got to know Little Red Reading Hood from the book, Little Red Reading Hood by James Marshall.  We practiced discovering more about Little Red Riding Hood by looking at other characters in the book, looking at how she was illustrated, and even used our own voices to copy Little Red Reading Hood in the book.

Math:

This week in math we finished up our teen number book.  This book encouraged us to focus in on those teen numbers by identifying the ten group and the extra ones.  On Tuesday, we related 10-partner drawings to addition equations and found the changes in partners of 10.  On Wednesday, we counted by ones and tens to 100 and found partners of 10 by writing and discussing 7-partners.  On Thursday, we equalized the two number groups by adding and we found partners of 7, 8 and 9.

Star Student:

Meet Ella

Ella was our star student this week!  We learned so many fun new facts about Ella.  We learned her favorite color is teal, she likes to eat tomato soup and her favorite book is, “The Book with No Pictures”!  She enjoys the sport of gymnastics and she loves to play inside when she is at school. Three super cool facts that we learned about Ella are 1. She loves butterflies. 2. She loves to go camping 3. She has cousins that live in Minnesota. Thanks for being a wonderful star student this week, Ella!
