Writers Workshop:

We switched gears with our writing and we are now writing small moment stories.  A small moment story is a true story from your life.  Our goal is to zoom in on this story and write a beginning, middle and end with details.  This is going to be our last writing focus for this school year.  On Monday, we worked on telling our story to our partners and drawing our cover page of the story.  On Tuesday, we wrote the beginning, on Wednesday the middle and Thursday the end!  We will continue with small moment stories for the next several weeks.

Readers Workshop:

We continued to learn about characters this week in reading.  On Tuesday we learned more about the characters in our stories from what the other characters in the story are doing.  On Wednesday, we zoomed in on our characters and discussed how it is important to look at them closely and really get to know each character.  On Thursday, we discussed the importance of looking at a character’s face to decide how the character is feeling.  We then made connections by thinking of a time when maybe we felt the same way as our character!  We continued to use the Character Round Up chart with each of these lessons.

Math:

This week in math we found the unknown partner when the total and one partner are known. We also found the total of two partners.  On Tuesday, we told, retold and solved addition and subtraction stories.  We also compared the number of objects in two groups and took away objects to make groups equal.  On Wednesday we visualized teen numbers as ten ones and further ones.  We also compared the number of objects in groups.  On Thursday we compared sets using the words greater and less.

Star Student:

Meet Laken

Laken was our star student this week!  We learned so many fun new facts about him.  We learned his favorite color is blue, he likes to shrimp and his favorite book is, “Hot Lava”!  He enjoys the sport of basketball and he loves to participate in gym class when we are in school. Three super cool facts that we learned about Laken are 1. He went to Mackinac Island. 2. He plays baseball. 3. He plays basketball. Thanks for being a wonderful star student this week, Laken!
